Reconsidering contraception: “more than just birth control”

Our immense gratitude to Delfina, mental health advocate and mother, who sat down to share her experience about how contraceptives changed her life – helping to improve her mental health and relieve chronic pain. We asked Delfina to share one thing she wants Idahoans to know about contraceptives:

“What I want Idahoans to know, and especially the Idahoans who haven't had to go through some of the struggles that other women have had to go through, is that contraceptives are more than just birth control,” Delfina shared. “Contraceptives can really change a woman's life for the better… If we solely lump contraceptives with birth control, then we're really not doing justice to the women who need it for other purposes. And we're not truly taking a more global and holistic look at what these medications really can do for women and how they really can improve women's lives.”

Delfina’s story sheds important light on the impact of contraception to the health and well-being of Idahoans. We admire her courage and vulnerability to speak up and thank her for being a voice for so many Idaho women.
